EVP arguably the hottest topic in paranormal research today.

EVP's maybe our best chance to document real paranormal activity. Let's Start with the obvious and move on.

RF interface:

While Radio Interference Certainly accounts for some EVP (Like Those I get sent with Music and Sports cast in them). RF interference can't explain the obvious answers to questions asked by the researcher. Even the Most devout skeptic would agree that questions answered present a real problem making RF interference the only Answer. Sprit Voice:

Most Ghost hunters like this explanation, however it 's difficult to prove and makes many researcher shy away.If it's a spirit, voice their really bright! They Have learned to create reproduce there voices in digital and analog formats on virtually ever type of electronic medium know to man. As an Electrical Engineer with 30+ years of experience I find it hard to believe that crossing over makes you able to control and manipulate anything at will. Still most Mediums will state ' Sprit Knows No bounds'.
Frequencies above or below human hearing:
Think about it why would a recording device alter the frequency of a recorded message? If sound is recorded at a range out side human hearing, A recorded would reproduced at the same range.

Modulation: ( MMW ) Modulated Magnetic Waves

Serious researchers are coming to believe that these voices maybe Modulated on an ultra or sub sonic sound acting as a carrier wave. Here lies one of our best area's to prove what the source of an EVP maybe. So how would this work? Imagine you were using a child’s toy two cups and a piece of string the string makes no sound, but a voice in the first cup causes the string to vibrate and the sound is produced in the second cup. Much in the same way Image that our EVP sender creates a magnetic disturbance "Speech" and this disturbance interacts with a sound source out side the human hearing range. Just like the cup and string the recording devices picks up the disturbance or speech that is interacting with the sub or ultra sonic sound. The "Modulation " of this disturbance is detected by the electronic device as audible sound.

Agent:

This is the one that makes every medium and physic see red. What if the source of the EVP is the person or agent looking for it? Much the same as current convention thinks of poltergeist activity. This must be address it's certainly possible. However, the Open Mined Medium and Physic rejects this train of thought. So if it were the person / agent causing the EVP wouldn't that be every bit as paranormal as a spirit? It would be a huge testament to the ability of the human mind.

Fraud:

Fraud is clouding a difficult issue. There's intentional fraud trying to deceive for profit or notoriety and un-intentional fraud speeding up slowing down filtering a sound till it sounds like something just out of the desire to find an EVP. If you filter always keep the original because without it you have no proof no real record.
