Terms and Glossary for Ghost Hunting

  • Aperture – the opening in a camera lens that allows light to pass.
  • EM – Electromagnetic
  • EMF – Electromagnetic Fields.
  • EVP – Electronic Voice Phenomenon.
  • Hertz – Also know as cycles per second is a unit of measure for wave forms  IE: Cycles / 1 second =  Hertz or Hz
  • Infrasound – Sound below the level of human hearing typically below 20 Hz.
  • IR – Infrared,  Typically light in the wave length range of 750 nm to 2000 nm.
  • ITC “Instrumental Trans communication” Thought as the use of devices to effect spirit communication.
  • Nano Meter – Abbreviated nm the Nano meter can be used to describe the length of a light wave.
  • Phonetic – the basic sound pieces that make up speech used by some devices to create speech.
  • Psychomanteum– A practice of mirror gazing in a dark room aimed to facilitate ESP / premonitions.
  • Static electricity – is an abundance of electric charge within or on the surface of a material.
  • Radio Sweep – In the Paranormal field this term is taken to mean the automated changing of stations
  • Radionics – The practice and use of devices to focus and amplify the thoughts and desires of the user.
  • Scrying – a method of meditation or trance using a reflective surface.
  • Tagging – The practice of saying out loud that a sound or noise was caused by a natural event during an EVP session.
  • Trigger Device  A unit intended to work as a siren which may draw paranormal activity towards it.
  • Trigger Object – An object used to elicit a response from a “Spirit” IE: Dolls, children’s toys, Period clothing etc.
  • Ultrasonic – Sound that is above the normal human hearing range typically 20 kHz to as high as 200 kHz
  • UV – Ultraviolet,  Typically light in the wave length range of 200 nm to 400 nm
  • Visible spectrum  – the portion of the electromagnetic spectrum that is visible bye the human eye, approximately 400-700 nm.
